OUR STORY . EST. 1962

Three women

One kitchen

Sixty-four years.

Urban Leafys is not a brand we built. It’s a kitchen we

inherited — from a grandmother who couldn’t read, to a

mother who fed a village, to a daughter who couldn’t

bear to let it disappear.

A wood stove in Guntur

My grandmother, Annapurnamma, was twelve when she lost her mother. She raised her four siblings on a wood-fired stove, two clay pots, and the karam recipes pressed into her memory like a second mother's lullaby.

A kitchen of her own

My mother, Sarojini, opened a tiffin counter from the verandah of our house. Eight steel boxes, four karams, one rule: never sell anything you wouldn't feed your own child. She fed half our village before she fed herself.

A kitchen for everyone’s mother

I came home from a finance job in Bangalore to find my mother's tiffin counter on its last legs. I had a question — what if the karam she ground for our neighbours could ride a truck to Mumbai, Delhi, San Francisco?

A kitchen with sixty hands

Today, Urban Leafys is sixty-two women — farmers, grinders, packers, accountants. We've sold over 400,000 jars. My grandmother's recipes feed strangers in 28 countries. She's eighty-six. She still tastes every batch.

WHAT WE STAND ON

Three non-negotiables.

Above-market wages

Every woman in our supply chain earns 1.4×

the regional rate. We publish our cost sheet

annually.

Soil-first farming

We work only with farmers using indigenous,

low-water cultivars. No fillers, no irradiation,

no shortcuts.

A kitchen, not a factory

Our 800-sq-ft grinding floor in Hyderabad is

purposefully small. We could be bigger.

We won’t be.
